Minutes of the Business Meeting

Meeting Hosts: Bob and Susan Meyer
Saturday, September 25, 1999

The first meeting of the year was held at the Meyer's. Present: Bob and Shirley Metcalf, Margaret and Jim Thorp, Bill and Dorothy Mein, Dave and Tellie Bray, Louise Straub, Dick and Shirley Beane, Buckley Riggs, Paul McGrath and Joan LaComb, Ed and Lorraine Kear, and Bob, Susan, and Julia Meyer. Louise Straub brought a special guest: her sister-in-law.

The evening started with hors d'oeuvres, which were enjoyed by all. We enjoyed a special treat in that the evening's music was provided by Julia Meyer on the piano. Thanks, Julia! Dinner was, as usual, delicious.

After dinner, Bob called the meeting to order using an Indian prayer bell (sort of fitting for this organization, wouldn't you think!). The first request was for the minutes of the July Lamb Roast. Since we NEVER take minutes at the lamb roast, there were none. The secretary read the minutes of the Derby Day meeting instead.

The next order of business was a report on the July Lamb Roast. The day was gorgeous and all had a wonderful time. The Beane's grandchildren and David Meyer all spent time up on water skis before the lamb was served. As usual, the lamb was terrific! Did we say the day was beautiful? It was - the rain held off until everyone was leaving. Good timing, huh.

On a more serious note, we learned that Doc Lowell died on Wednesday the 22nd. Judy sent a message to the group through Shirley that Doc left his body to science and did not wish to have a memorial service. The group honored Doc's memory with a moment of silence, and we decided to send Judy flowers. We all signed a card for Judy as well. Doc will be missed by all of us.

Meeting dates for the upcoming year were discussed. The October meeting will be on Saturday the 23rd at the Meins at 6:00. It will be a dinner meeting and Shirley and Tellie will call. A tentative date of November 20 was set for the meeting after that, but we still need a host. The ornament exchange will be hosted by Dave and Tellie on December 18, and Russ and Heather Nelson volunteered for the January ski-soup-and-sandwich. Ed and Lorraine have volunteered for the July meeting (already!)

February is the month in which we do ski trips. La Petite will be Feb. 4-6. We have three cabins, and $30.00 deposit per person is due in late October. Already, the Gibbs, Thorps (including Zachary), Buckley, Metcalfs, Meins, Nagle's and Buchanan's, and Meyer's have reserved slots. Bob will check with Suzanne to determine exact cabin configurations. Anyone up to organizing a downhill trip in February or March?

Dave Bray has relocated our ski club web page. It's at www.40-below.com/skiclub for anyone who is interested. He has a memorial note to Doc posted along with other useful goodies. There had been 483 hits on the web site as of the September meeting date.

The meeting ended with thanks to Bob and Susan for hosting the group and the usual announcement that dues are due. $5 per person or the usual couples discount - $10 per couple.
