Minutes of the Business Meeting

Potsdam Apres Ski Club
Ides of March, 2003
Hosts: Susan and Bob Meyer

Present: Dave & Telly Bray, Gene Kaczka, Joan LaComb & Paul McGrath, Judy Lowell, Bob & Shirley Metcalf, Bob & Sue Meyers, Russ & Heather Nelson, Bill & Cathy Petersen

Our meeting was called to order about 8:40 pm following cocktails and a delightful repast during which folks exchanged tales on survival tactics during the frigid winter.

The minutes of the 12/15/02 and 1/19/03 meetings were read and motions to approve followed from Bill and Cathy Petersen, respectively and seconded by Sue Conry and Shirley Metcalf, respectively. Only correction came from Bill Petersen as the multi-tasking President unknowingly and inadvertently referred to him as Bob.

The treasurer’s report reveals that our funds totaled $174.87 on 3/15/03. The President reported that our donations of $50.00 to Hospice and $50.00 to the Potsdam Holiday Fund were delivered and that the Apres Ski Club had been acknowledged with a note of thanks.

A brief second hand report, via Ed McNamara, who had visited with the Frazers recently, was provided on Doris Frazer. He had remarked that Doris appears to be recovering quite well from the effects of her stroke. We all agreed that she is of pretty hardy stock and one spunky lady to boot. All wish them well and pray for a continued rapid recovery.

Next meeting is Derby Day to be hosted by the Brays on Saturday May 3 at 4:30 pm. Rumor has it that they have installed a new white oak hardwood floor in hopes of withstanding the thundering hooves of the Apres Ski crowd. As the President and his trusty Secretary, Carolyn, plan to be exploring the Grand Escalante Staircase, Bryce and Zion National Parks at that time, Sue and Bob Meyer agreed to preside in their stead and Joan LaComb agreed to head up the calling.

A hearty round to thanks was extended to our generous host and hostess.

Bob Meyer recounted the activities of the La Petite Rouge gathering on January 31, February 1 & February 2. The Ice Bridge was not only open this year; it was a good 20 inches thick of blue ice. It seems contrary to some prior years they hit a nice stretch of pleasant temperatures. The skiing was great. They reported on many improvements to the lodge including an expansion of the dining and dancing facilities. So a great time was had by all on the trails and on the dance floor.

The Partches have indicated that they would be agreeable to doing a lamb roast again this summer. Most likely time is late July or early August. Location is yet to be decided.

The nominating committee met and the President recalled that as he was accepting the mantle last year that Paul McGrath opined (in a weak moment), that he might be willing to assume the grave responsibilities next. When first approached by the committee, he feigned forgetfulness and a busy schedule. Congratulations and assurances were extended by all hands around the room, but still there was reluctance. The President announced the plight of the committee in the business meeting inadvertently referring to Paul as Peter (a biblical error?) further demonstrating the need to find a younger more facile mind to lead our ship. Paul and Joan rose to the occasion and announced that they were indeed willing to accept the leadership post. In the process, Bob and Shirley Metcalf agreed to assume the roles of President and Secretary in waiting. Thus, our leadership is assured for another two years.

It seemed an appropriate time to call for adjournment.
Done at 9:00pm.

Respectfully submitted by Gene Kaczka
