Old business::
A report was given on our 2006 Ski Trips page to Smuggler’s Notch on January 13, 14 and 15. It turned out to be an adventure in socializing, shopping, and experiencing new cuisine and art. Some people cancelled because of the impending rain forecast, which is certainly understandable. Six ski club members traveled to the Anchorage Inn located across from the University Mall in Burlington: Shirley & Bob Metcalf, Jutta & Joe Fitzsimons, Joanne & Dick Partch. The skiing was very good on Friday with variable conditions. Smugglers Notch is a great ski resort with a variety of trails for every taste. Saturday morning it was pouring rain; so the day included shopping and site seeing. Then of course everyone was ready for a soak in the Jacuzzi, happy hour and dinner. The Fitzsimons’ found an out of the way restaurant called “Taste of Burlington”. The cuisine (especially the duck and oysters) and the service were excellent. The chef/owner (Rick Benson) gave a tour of his art work, Jutta & Joe purchased an “owner signed” unique piece of art. Sunday morning the “art theme” continued at breakfast. A team of young ladies from Manhattanville were drawing pictures at the table next to us, Joe decided that someone should collect some money and judge their work and hand out prizes, it was hilarious. Dick took home some art work as well; the winning picture was signed by the young artist.
New business::
Bob Meyer was not at the meeting to give a report, however he left a note about the LaPetite Rouge cross country trip which is planned on February 3rd to 5th, 2006, the Nelson’s, Tomalty’s, Kaczka’s, Gibbs, Meyer’s and Mein’s are booked for the trip. We certainly hope they have a lot of snow and a good time. I am sure we will hear a full report at the April meeting.
The Whiteface Mountain Ski Trip will be on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 17th, 18th and 19th. The Metcalf’s have booked rooms at the Comfort Inn in Lake Placid for a special rate. The usual rate is $109. our rate will be $68.00 (a $41. savings). You can walk directly out of your room into the entertainment area, which includes a waterfall, a pool, Jacuzzi and private bar. 6 people are booked: Bob and Shirley Metcalf, Jutta & Joe Fitzsimons, and Carolyn & Gene Kaczka.
Sue & Bob Gibbs will host the next meeting on April 8, 2006, at 5:00 pm Sue will be calling.
Tellie & Dave Bray will host Derby Day on May 6, 2006, wear your hats, hats will be judged, time to be announced, 4:30 PM plus or minus.
A big round of applause was given to Heather & Russ for hosting the meeting and for doing the calling.
Respectfully submitted,
Bob Metcalf.
