Christmas Dinner and Ornament Exchange Meeting
at Shirley and Bob Metcalf's

The "Tee Shirt Contest"

Those of you that follow our Ski Club pages will note that we frequently feature members who are wearing "innovative" clothing.
We have been calling it the "Tee Shirt Contest".

Socializing

Is this why we are here?
Notice the sense of anticipations for the Ornament Exchange?

A Few of the Ornaments

It is very hard to capture pictures of ornaments when they are moving from person to person at the speed of light
This is the best we could do.

The Featured Ornaments

The Crists (see Meeting Minutes below) made a special gift. It was a FlamiGuin (Flamingo/Penguin). You have to be in on a very old joke to fully appreciate it. The most unusual ornament:
Schlittelhose "ornament".
The important thing to notice is the expression of those other than Bob Burns.

Minutes of the Business Meeting

Potsdam Après Ski Club
December 17, 2000
Hosts: Shirley and Bob Metcalf

An abbreviated business meeting was called to order by President Bob Gibbs following a delicious (as always!) dinner.

Present were: Dave and Tellie Bray, Bob and Ellen Burns, Gabor Forgacs and Marta Szoke, Ron and Doris Frazer, Bob and Sue Gibbs, Bill and Crystal Hayman, Gene and Carolyn Kaczka, Bill and Trish Lewis, Judy Lowell, Joan LaComb and Paul McGrath, Bill and Dorothy Mein, Bob and Shirley Metcalf, Bob and Susan Meyer, Russ and Heather Nelson (Russ arrived from India just as the business meeting was about to begin.), Dick and Joanne Partch, Bill and Cathy Petersen, Buckley Riggs, and Jim and Margaret Thorp.

Shirley and Bob Metcalf were thanked for graciously hosting tonight's meeting/ornament exchange.

In the interest of time--experience telling us that the ornament exchange just might go on a bit!--a motion was made, seconded, and passed that for this meeting only the minutes as posted on our website be approved as written.

The treasury had a balance at that time of $155.10, after reimbursing Bob and Shirley for tonight's ham. Ten dollars in dues was subsequently received. Upcoming events were noted, and the "official" meeting was closed.

Proceedings were then turned over to Bob Meyer, who had been appointed to oversee the ornament exchange. After some discussion regarding a suggested minor change to the rules, consensus was that the "old" system be continued. At that time the original rules were reviewed by the overseer--and explained and explained and explained!

Before the regular exchange began two special gifts (the traditional box of fruit from the Beans and a surprise gift from the Crists, members for many years before moving) were awarded to those whose number slips were marked "B" and "C". Lucky winners, respectively, were Gabor Forgacs and Marta Szoke, and Bob and Sue Gibbs.

Susan Meyer, having drawn number one, began the exchange -- and had much experience opening gifts before the evening was over! Among the unusual gifts was a pair of red leather "Bob Shorts" (also known as "Luge Culottes" or "Schlittelhose"), which was picked by Ellen and Bob Burns, and fetchingly modeled by Bob B. There was also a poor little bird who was obviously a beginning cross-country skier, as his legs and skis were twisted more than a little!

All gifts were delightful, and appreciated. Several changed hands many, many, many times in each round. After one such round, Telly Bray very considerately chose to unwrap the last gift, thus ending the cycle. It might be noted that in the end, the Kaczkas went home with the Norwegian skier, the Metcalfs stayed home with the red Santa, and the Meyers left with the white Santa.

A fine time was had by all!

Respectfully submitted,

Sue Gibbs
